ExportGPT aims to give you more control over your data — not less. Here’s how it works under the hood.

Local-first behavior:

  • Runs only where it’s needed. ExportGPT only runs on ChatGPT and Sora pages (for example, chat.openai.com and chatgpt.com). It doesn’t inject itself into unrelated sites.
  • Works entirely in your browser. Exports are generated from the page you’re viewing. Files are built directly in your browser and then handed off to the download manager.
  • No external servers by default. Your conversations and media are not sent to exportAnything LLC or third-party servers as part of the export process.

Permissions:

  • Content access. The extension can read the visible content of supported ChatGPT and Sora pages in order to build your export files.
  • Downloads. Used to create and save archives, and other files that you explicitly choose to export.
  • No browsing history tracking. ExportGPT doesn’t track which sites you visit or log your browsing history.
